Overview

Stainless Steel Bar 316 combines austenitic stainless steel with 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel and 2–3% molybdenum for reliable chloride resistance and consistent dimensional control. The molybdenum addition delivers enhanced pitting and crevice corrosion performance in chloride-rich environments, making the bar suited to chemical processing components, marine hardware, oil and gas fittings, pharmaceutical equipment and pump shafts. Supplied to ASTM A276 with mill test certification per EN 10204 3.1, it supports global procurement for harsh-service industrial projects.

FAQ

Most enquiries reduce to a small set of recurring technical questions.

01 What is 316 stainless bar?

316 stainless bar (1.4401 / SUS316) is an austenitic grade with 2-3% molybdenum for improved resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

02 When should 316 bar be specified over 304?

316 is preferred for marine, coastal, chemical processing, pharmaceutical and chloride-rich service.

03 Is 316 bar suitable for food contact?

Yes. 316 bar is widely used for food processing, brewing, dairy and pharmaceutical equipment.

04 Can 316 bar be supplied as low-carbon 316L?

Yes. 316L (1.4404 / SUS316L) with carbon ≤ 0.03% is available for welded applications requiring maximum intergranular corrosion resistance.

05 What is the maximum service temperature of 316 bar?

Continuous service up to 925 °C is acceptable. Sustained 425 - 860 °C exposure should be avoided to prevent carbide precipitation.
