Nickel-chromium-molybdenum-columbium alloy rod and bar
Standard specification for precipitation-hardening nickel alloy rod and bar for high-temperature service.
Nickel Alloy — Industrial Product
Inconel 718 nickel alloy bars and rods supplied to ASTM B637 / AMS 5662 / AMS 5663 for high-temperature fasteners, aerospace and gas turbine components.
Overview
Inconel 718 Bars & Rods combine a nickel-chromium matrix with substantial niobium, molybdenum and titanium additions to deliver high strength through precipitation (age) hardening. In the solution-annealed-plus-aged condition, the alloy achieves tensile strength above 1275 MPa while retaining useful creep resistance up to approximately 700 °C. It is supplied in round, square and hex bar form per ASTM B637 / ASME SB637 and the corresponding aerospace specifications AMS 5662, AMS 5663 and AMS 5664. The combination of high strength, fatigue resistance and thermal stability makes the bar suited to high-temperature fasteners, gas turbine and aerospace components, rocket and missile parts, high-strength shafts, valve and wellhead components for oil & gas, and tooling where sustained mechanical loading at elevated temperature is required. Each delivery is supported by mill test certification per EN 10204 3.1 and full traceability of heat number, chemical analysis and heat-treatment lot.

FAQ
Most enquiries reduce to a small set of recurring technical questions.
Inconel 718 (UNS N07718 / NiCr19Fe19Nb5Mo3 / 2.4668) is a precipitation-hardening nickel-chromium alloy containing substantial niobium, molybdenum and titanium. In the aged condition it achieves tensile strength above 1275 MPa and retains useful creep resistance up to approximately 700 °C.
Both are nickel-chromium alloys. Inconel 625 is solid-solution strengthened (not age-hardenable) and is selected primarily for corrosion resistance in chemical, marine and offshore service. Inconel 718 is precipitation hardened and is selected for high strength at elevated temperature in aerospace, gas turbine and high-temperature fastener applications.
Industrial reference is ASTM B637 / ASME SB637. Aerospace references include AMS 5662 (annealed), AMS 5663 (annealed + aged) and AMS 5664 (premium grade). EN 10269 is the European reference for high-temperature fastener stock. API 6A covers Inconel 718 for oil & gas wellhead equipment.
Standard delivery is solution annealed (AMS 5662) for components that will be machined before final aging, or solution annealed plus precipitation aged (AMS 5663) for finished parts requiring full high-temperature strength. Aging is typically 720 °C / 8 h + furnace cool to 620 °C / 8 h, per AMS 2774.
Round bar is supplied from approximately 6 mm up to 350 mm. Smaller sizes are typically cold drawn or centerless ground, larger sizes are hot rolled or forged. Square, hex and flat sections are available on request.
Inconel 718 is suitable for continuous service up to approximately 700 °C. Above this temperature, microstructural coarsening reduces long-term strength. For sustained service above approximately 700 °C, Waspaloy, Rene 41 or Inconel 740H are typical alternatives.
